The Diamondhead Fire Department began as a volunteer department chartered with the State  of Mississippi on January 19, 1974 and became a full-time, paid department with Retired New Orleans Fire Department Captain Edward Friloux as  Chief  in 1976

Starting with a tanker truck three drivers, the Department acquired it’s first pumper......... a 1975 1000 GPM Jaco and grew to employ 6 full time firefighters under Chief Friloux’s administration.

Since Chief Friloux’s retirement in 1985, the Department has been under the command of Chief Dennis Westbrook.  Chief Westbrook, the former Assistant Chief of Ocean Springs Mississippi, came to us by way of the Mississippi State Fire Academy, where  he worked as a  Senior  Instructor.

Under Chief Westbrook’s leadership, the Diamondhead Fire Department is today  a professional fire and rescue service with 13 paid members. Department vehicles now include a 1989 350 GPM mini-pumper Rescue, a Ford Ranger service / salvage unit, Ladder 1 a custom, all aluminum 1750 GPM quint with 75 foot aerial, and delivered last May, Engine 1, our new 1750 GPM all aluminum custom pumper  and the chief's car a 1998 Crown Victoria

Under Chief Westbrook’s instruction, all our personnel carry minimum certification as Nationally Registered 1001 Firefighter, 1002 Apparatus Driver/ Operator and EMS First Responder.

Various personnel are also certified as 1021 Fire Officer, Fire Safety Inspector, Fire Investigator, 1041 Fire Service Instructor, Hazard Materials Technician, Rope Rescue Technician, Emergency Medical Technician-D, and SCUBA Dive/Rescue Specialist 1 and NAUI Instructor.

Diamondhead is a retirement community of around 6000 residents.  We enjoy a town Class 6 rating from the Mississippi Insurance Rating Bureau. This department receives it's funding from a 4 mil ad valorem tax  and a small  Fire Protection fee charged to all residents. We have a mutual aid agreement with all Mississippi Gulf Coast Fire Departments and AMR ambulance
